Kyokou Suiri (虚構推理) (Invented inference) is a Japanese novel series written by Kyo Shirodaira. It is the original source for both manga and anime adaptation. As of June 2019, three volumes have been released in Japan.

From the author of Zetsuen no Tempest (Blast of Tempest), the series began as a novel. The first novel of the series Kyokou Suiri: Steel Lady Nanase (虚構推理 鋼人七瀬) was originally published in May 2011 by Kodansha under its imprint Kodansha Novels. The cover of the first novel was drawn by Hiro Kiyohara.

The first novel was reissued in December 2015, two months after the release of the first volume of the manga. It was later reissued again in January 2019 in A6 format. The second novel was released in December 2018 under Kodansha's imprint, Kodansha Taiga. From the second novel onwards, illustrations are now drawn by Chasiba Katase instead of Hiro Kiyohara.
